Get out there!

Updated: May 18, 2020

Most people think of photography as a somewhat of a lonely hobby as people venture out in some random area, taking a picture hanging from a tree just to get the right angle. When I began shooting, I actually agreed with this statement, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Thanks to social media apps such as Facebook or Instagram, it’s very easy to find photography groups in your area. Check the explore page of Instagram for hashtags like ‘Bay Area Shooters’ or ‘Photography Groups.’ One can log onto Facebook and join a San Francisco photography group and find local times that others meet up. Most groups usually have set meeting times once or twice a month. At these meetings it’s more than going out with a group, it’s making friends and learning from each other. You may think you know everything there is to know about photography, but I promise you if you come to a meet up, there is so much for you to learn. From different settings on your camera to creative ideas to make your photos look even more professional, other photographers can help you learn and grow in ways you didn’t know were possible. You may even run into an old friend or make a new one. Expanding your social circle in the photography community can truly help shape you into a better photographer. Some may be worried that you would have to jump through some rings to get in, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. It’s as easy as coming to the meet ups, introducing yourself and having a good time.
